A mixture of garlic and ajwain is very powerful and acts as the best herbal medicines for the cure of cough and flu. To make a mixture, take 2 garlic cloves and 1 teaspoon of ajwain and dry roast them. After that cool it down and take the mixture out in a muslin cloth and tie it tight. Now place this pouch near baby’s cot or where baby sleeps. This mixture will help to clear any blockage that the baby might have.  Another way to use this pouch is to rub it on the soles of the baby’s feet to have effective results.

They have a tranquilizing effect on the baby as they ease the choking. To prepare the mixture, take 1/4th cup of mustard oil, add 2 cloves of crushed garlic, and add 1 teaspoon of ajwain into it. Heat all of them on low flame until it turn into brown color. After preparing this mixture, it will turns into oil like texture. Then massage this oil on the baby’s chest and under baby’s feet. This oil will be efficacious for the cure of cold and flu for the babies.

Mustard oil provides warmth that gives a soothing effect to the baby’s throat. It acts as one of the good home remedies for the cure of cough and flu. Take 2 tablespoons of lukewarm mustard oil and take half a teaspoon of rock salt. Mix both of them and massage this oil gently on the baby’s chest and the back. After massaging, cover the body parts with a warm cloth to provide heat.

4. Lemon water mixed with Honey

Lemons are a rich source of Vitamin C that helps in fighting against viruses and bacteria. Squeeze a lemon in a glass of lukewarm water and you can also add honey for the taste. Mix it thoroughly and give this mixture to babies.

Honey is good in taste that’s why it is better for children older than age 1. It is better than medicine for curing cough and cold.

You can give steamed or mashed carrots to the children more than the age of 6 and for toddlers you can give carrot juice that is easy for them to digest.

You can also use steam therapy to cure cough and cold in babies. If you don’t have an electric steamer in your home then you can run a hot shower and let some steam to accumulate in the bathroom. Let your baby sit in the steam for 15 to 20 minutes. When the toddler will inhale the steam it will loosen the mucus and gives baby a relief.

If your kid is suffering from cold and flu, by raising your kid’s head you can prevent mucous to go back into the system and this practice also allows baby to breathe easily. For raising your child’s head, put a towel under your child’s head for elevating it. You can also use a small pillow too. But make sure that the height of the pillow is suitable for baby height to avoid any neck problem.

For infants, take a piece of dry turmeric and burn it in a candle or lamp flame, allowing the infant to inhale smoke from the burning turmeric for one minute. The smoke emanating from the burning turmeric will be just like a thread, so there is no fear of inhaling the smoke !!!

Tip : For children above 1+ years, turmeric can be given by mixing it with milk.

9. Tulsi/Basil leaves

Basil leaves have great medicinal properties, they can be added to either water or milk. Allow them to soak in water for more than an hour and give water to children above 2 years of age.

This remedy is simple and effective. Kids don’t like the taste but it works. That matters! Heat one tablespoon of desi ghee and then add a pinch of black pepper to it and take it little by little three to three times a day. Best before bedtime.

 13. Kaadha


They are considered the best remedy with a queer taste but the big benefits is kaadha. Cumin, black pepper and jaggery kaadha ; Basil/tulsi, ginger, Ajwain kaadha is best to get rid of cough and cold. 14. Saffron/ Kesar milk

Although expensive saffron is quite effective in case of cold. Put 3-4 flakes in boiling milk and boil it for 5 minutes before making your baby drink it. It provides good warmth to the body to fight cold and cough symptoms and also helps in getting sound sleep.
